On this page
1. What the read is
The machine reads the live ads running in your trade and your area, and reports what everybody is claiming and what nobody is. Your scripts are then aimed at the gap.
You do not pick a market. It already knows your trade and your service area from the conversation.
2. Running it
Get there from Home (Read my market), from the journey map, or from the See the market read these came from button on the Scripts tab.
- Tap Read my market. The button reads Reading the competition…
- It takes about two minutes when the market is already known to us.
- When it lands you get a toast reading Market read attached and the report opens.
The first time anyone asks for a market nobody has read yet, it has to be built. The page will say either that it is being built right now (about fifteen minutes) or that it is in line (usually within a day). You do not have to wait on the page — it will be there next time you open the app.
If the page says It does not know your market yet, the conversation has not told it your trade and area. Tap Talk to your producer and have the call first.
3. The read
The first card is The read. It carries:
- How many live ads were read, and when.
- A stamp: Current or Due a re-read.
- A one-line freshness note, e.g. This read is current.
- The whole read, as it came back — expand this for the full report.
4. How you stand out
The second card holds your differentiators up against the read. It does not run on its own, because it is a real piece of work — tap Work out how I fit this and give it a moment.
What comes back:
- What everybody in these ads is claiming — the noise you are competing with.
- What nobody is claiming — the openings.
- Each of your differences, with a verdict.
- The one to lead with — the single claim worth building ads around.
If the card says your producer has not written down what makes you different yet, that comes out of the conversation. Tap Talk to your producer.
5. What each verdict means
| Verdict | What it means |
|---|---|
| Nobody else claims it | Open ground. This is where the money is. |
| Barely claimed | One or two competitors say it. Still usable if you say it better. |
| Everybody claims it | Table stakes. True, but it will not move anyone. |
| Not settled by the read | The ads did not give enough signal either way. |
If none of your differences are unclaimed, the card says so plainly under Straight answer. That is worth knowing before you spend: the scripts then have to win on how you say it.
6. Next
The last card gives you exactly one next step.
- No scripts yet: Write my six scripts. The button reads Writing in your voice…, then you land on the Scripts tab.
- Scripts already written: Go to my scripts.
- Either way, Read my market again re-runs the read.
7. Stale reads and re-reads
A read goes stale when it gets old, or when your trade or area changed after it ran. You do not have to manage this: the read is redone on its own before your next batch of scripts is written.
The fit section can go stale separately — it shows an Out of date stamp and dims. Tap Work it out again to refresh it against the current read.
